I feel that in years past the average person on the left would just look at some of the stances on the right and be frustrated, confused, or even just smug towards the seemingly illogic/incongruence of it all. The classic voting against your own interests type of sentiment. But now I think people are coming around to see it as not necessarily illogical, but just very sinister logic.
